The laboratory consists of a combination of classical and modern equipment in order to foster hands-on and research skills of students. The lab was recently upgraded with state-of-the-art sectioning, polishing, optical and atomic force microscopy equipment giving students access to modern educational and research techniques. Students are asked to identify elements based on their X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) spectra, to analyze and process the XRD data, to experience all the metallurgical characterization steps from sample preparation to imaging. Mechanical Behavior testing can be performed as well with the laboratory Instron test frames connected to the data aquisition equipment.
